Gnome Pumpkins for Pie

As I was stepping out my front door to go run some errands, I heard a faint “Hello.”

Looking around, I didn't see anyone, so I started to leave. Again, I heard the voice, only it was louder this time… “HELLO!”

I looked down to my small pumpkin patch on the ground and hiding behind the pumpkins were three little gnomes. One that was tucked into the middle of my pumpkins, was waving exuberantly at me.

“Hello! Hello!” He shouted. “Oh! Hello.” I said to him, he was adorably tiny, but seemed to carry a very big attitude of confidence with him.

“Can I help you?” I replied. “Oh! You most certainly can! Do you have any plans for these beautiful pumpkins here?”

“I do not. Why?” I said to him with a bit of a smile perched on my lips. “Well you see…we’d like to have them, to make pumpkin pies for our village during this Thanksgiving holiday…that is, if you would be so kind as to sell them to us?”

“If pumpkin pies are your mission, you are free to take them and enjoy them to your tummies content!” I replied. The three little gnomes cheered and thanked me with big cherry-cheeked smiles.

Then the gnome with all the confidence, whistled a sharp whistle and out of nowhere appeared two big fluffy brown bunnies. The gnomes began giving the bunnies directions as to start rolling the pumpkins and before I knew it, the pumpkins and gnomes were gone.

“Wow!” I said to myself. “If those pumpkins’ hadn’t disappeared before my eyes I’d have thought I was imagining this whole scene.”

Later that night there was a knock on my front door. Opening the door, I was greeted with the most delicious pumpkin pie spices. Looking down, I found a very small pie with a note that read, “Thank you so much for your kindness…please enjoy this gift of pie and have a Happy Thanksgiving. Yours Gnomingly!”

As to having heard my tale, I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and may you also be blessed with a small piece of Gnome Pumpkin Pie and the love of your village….

November

The chill in the air has begun to grow stronger, as the nights have become a little bit longer.

November has kicked open the door with her leaf covered boots and made herself very comfortable on the couch of this season…of course she needs absolutely no reason!

She is painting the days with colors both vibrant and warm, waving her arms and whipping up a tremendous golden storm.

Children playing outside run to find cover, as November continues whirling a bounty of colorful leaves where they hover.

November quickly floats along valleys and fields blowing one last kiss to all the fruits on the vines, soon those fruits will be filling baskets at harvest time.

One thing that November is greatly known for, is her beautiful powder blue skies, filled with silvery dense clouds that rain down giant drops of water, right before your eyes!

Though she is temperamental with all of her moods, November will help you find a cozy place to enjoy some of her warm harvested foods.

One of those warming foods that I enjoy best, is a great big helping of pumpkin pie, to which, after it is eaten, I will snuggle in for a warm November rest….

Parade of Souls

The moon is out and the air is chill. Wait! What is that walking across the top of cemetery hill?

Why, it’s an All Hallows’ Eve, souls parade, I’m afraid!

Yes! I see! Five scary souls, doing a Trick-or-Treat trot. Please beware, but fear naught!

It’s only Frankie Stein, Dragon Dark-Dot, Bedsheet Berry, Feline Scary and Pumpkin Patch Paige. Each carries with them the wisdom of an All Hallows’ Eve sage.

Sleepy clouds above, peeking over the hill, as the moon's bright light sits upon them so still.

Bats as black as night, flying and fluttering chaotically about…crazy is this sight!

Looming below the path of this souls parade, are souls who have been waiting for this very special day. Soon all their glooming and dooming will be swept away.

So as you float out to partake in this spooktacular evenings event, beware not to join the souls parade, for later others may be looking for you, as they wonder where you went!

October

October arrives on the heels of summer's end, still holding in its grasp, her warmth.

Soon a morning's chill creeps into the early hours of October’s day.

The note these cool mornings bring, lingers like a lover’s words of departure, on the woodlands leaves.

October bears the end of warmth and the beginning of the world turning to a much colder and darker side.

Soon there will be harvest to reap, as mouth watering vegetation starts to fall from the season's vines.

October skies tell a story as old as time, with its day shortening and its night growing long.

And with October’s last day, to which some call All Hallows’ Eve, Halloween or Samhain, we will bid a grand adieu.

But mind you, as you travel through the last of October’s night…beware! There will be October souls wandering the cool, damp earth, with hopes for an auspicious candy delight!

Trevi Bumblegnome

One September day, as I was walking past an enormous sunflower garden, filled with the most beautiful golden-yellow sunflowers, I suddenly heard a slight humming sound. Peaking my curiosity, I stepped a bit closer to investigate the sound.

It wasn't easy though! The happy humming was buried deep into the field of flowers, so I had to push my way quietly through the giant green forest of leaves and tall stalks.

Listening, I finally located the humming. Standing before me, on a large sunflower leaf, was a tiny creature. I leaned in a bit to get a better look, and to my great surprise, the little creature turned out to be, what I would have described as a Bumblegnome!

Seeming not to notice me, she worked diligently, painting the beautiful golden-yellow onto the sunflowers petals. With every stroke, the petals shimmered in the last light of the day.

As I watched her work, I began to feel worried that I might startle her if she happened to notice me standing there. So, I softly cleared my throat and whispered a gentle, “Hello.”

Her humming abruptly stopped and she quickly turned toward me with her paintbrush held out like a small sword. Quickly, I raised my hands high, stammering out…“I come in peace!”

The little Bumblegnome lifted her hat slightly higher off her head and looked at me with a good long stare, calculating whether I was friend or foe.

Coming to the realization that I was harmless, she dropped her guard and said, “Hello. And who might you be coming to spy on me?” To which I replied, “Me? Oh! My name is Tina. I’m sorry to disturb you, but when I heard you humming, my curiosity peaked and I had to locate the tune. May I ask your name?”

“No! You may not! But since you did, I will tell you. I’m Trevi the Bumblegnome and I have lots of petals to paint before the sunsets! So if you would please be on your way and let me get back to my work, I would really appreciate it…thank you!”

“Oh! Forgive me! I didn’t mean to cause you any grief. I will leave you to your work.”

I slowly turned and made my way out of the sunflowers. Trevi’s words, leaving a small sting on my ears. Wondering to myself if Trevi was always so blunt, or if I had caused her to feel anxious and she was being guarded in my presence. Most likely the latter.

So, word to the wise…If you find yourself walking along a garden filled with beautiful golden-yellow sunflowers and you hear a faint humming of a Bumblegnome, continue on your way. Take my word for it!

April

Snowing in April? Why yes! It always snows in April.

Sometimes it is white and cold.

But most of the time it is pink and bold.

Pink and bold is the kind of snow I like best.

Beautiful, cherry blossom trees in their soft, flowy, pink dress.

April, with its delicate pink fluttering snow, is like living in a dream, as it lands upon your toe.

Warming winds carrying pink snow to tickle a laughing child's chin.

Children dancing and singing with joy…every girl and every boy…scooping up pink petals as if it were a toy.

April is filled with many rain showers.

May your umbrella only find tiny, pink petal, flower showers….
