Just A Nibble

Would you look at that!

Somebunny has stopped for a sweet treat.

Yes, there he sits, nibbling happily on this tiny snow souls nose, while sitting at her feet.

Little Lillian Snow seems not to mind, that is because she is ever so kind.

This little bunny will nibble a few more crunchy, carrot, bites, his whiskers so tickly, making little Lillian Snow laugh with such delight.

Soon, off, bunny will bound, as the snow falls gently to the ground.

Being kind and sharing is sweet...sometimes sharing just a nibble can surprise somebunny’s day with a delicious treat!

Three Wise Gnomes

In the December Snow Forest you will find three wise gnomes, busy, busy as can be, getting all the forest ready for this Christmas Eve.

Everything must be in its place, no attention to detail left undone.

Moose helps Little Nick, as Little Nick hangs the golden star, a star of light, reminding us all of that wondrous night when God sent His son, the Prince of Peace, to be born among all men.

Jumble is placing the three gifts under the tree...three to be precise...the three gifts to represent the gifts for the child Christ.

While busy in their haste, it seems Jumble has found himself wrapped up in the lights. Someone please help him or he may be there all night!

The creatures’ of the forest are curiously watching all of this fuss. Soon the eve will come, darkness will fall, a stillness of calm will linger in the air, then the morning sun will rise and there before us all will be a beautiful Christmas surprise.

May the three wise gnomes find their way to your woods, placing a golden star upon your Christmas tree, while leaving you three gifts of joy, peace and love. And may God bless you all, as you look to the star, the golden star...that shines from the east.

Merry Christmas….

Jingle Bear

Bells are ringing and someone is singing...why it’s Jingle Bear!

Gliding along in his magical, peppermint, Christmas sleigh is Jingle Bear and accompanying him in song is his little bird friend Cinnamon. Merrily they sing along to Christmas songs as their magic sleigh slowly travels over the snow and hills.

Inside Jingle Bear’s sleigh are many presents, Jingle Bear and Cinnamon must be on their way to meet up with Santa, where they will soon be busy helping to deliver the many wonderful gifts. What a grand surprise it will be for all the children, young and old, waiting to receive delightful presents from Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and Jingle Bear. I can just hear the joy and laugher...the true music of Christmas, where every heart is warmed with happiness and love.

So if you happen to be out in the snowy forest and you hear merry tunes of the Christmas spirit floating in the air, be of good cheer, because Jingle Bear is somewhere near….

Gnome Place Like Home For Hanukkah

As the cool, dark blue night sky softly seeps down upon the cold winters snow outside; inside a quaint, little, earthy gnome hut, with its flames burning bright, burns the Hanukkah menorah, which will burn for most of the night. Alon, Berel and Leib, have gathered to celebrate in the menorah’s wondrous light, they will play games of dreidel, watching it spin and spin in hopes of a big win! Who will get all the gelt...seems a little mouse has found the stash of chocolate gelt, claiming it for himself.

Latkes are cooking in olive oil harvested from the fruits of the past year...oh the smell brings about such good cheer! Freshly made applesauce awaits to top these delicious potato cakes. Stacked on a plate are many sufganiyout (jelly filled donuts) just waiting to be eaten after everyone has had their fill of latkes and applesauce.

Alon holds the dreidel, while he watches Berel help Leib to make sure the menorah is steady and secure. Oh, the excitement builds with the warmth of the menorah’s light, the hopes of joy, peace and miracles to come, dance in their eyes, as they watch every flicker of the candles’ light before they slowly burn out of sight.

Yes, there is gnome place like home for Hanukkah...

Ryder Reindeer

Flying high in the sky is Ryder Reindeer, behind her waves a tail banner with words to spread good cheer. You can hear the jingle bells on the banner, singing out loud and clear...Ryder always fills the December air with the magical, joyful notes of the season.

Ryder has just left the North Pole from Santa’s workshop and loaded in her Biplane are gifts to be taken to all of Santa’s helpers, who will be giving these brightly wrapped packages to unexpecting kind Souls. Souls who have gone out of their way, helping those in need, while showing that extra bit of kindness that brings joy to others. These Souls may have done a task such as make meals for lonely Souls, who may not have enough to eat, they may have sat and just listened when some Soul needed an ear to hear them. They may have secretly sent money or a gift, to a Soul who was desperately in need of a financial or emotional lift. They may have spent time with a small Soul who was scared or in need of care. They may have saved someone from a terrible disaster, such as a fire, hurricane, earthquake, flood, or war. They may have even saved your life, from a threatening disease or accident. They may just be your friendly grocer, mail person or farm worker, who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep our world running smoothly.

Ryder sees the work she’s doing as one of the most important jobs given to any reindeer, by Santa. She will fly all day and into the night, making sure that all the gifts have been delivered. Then she will speed away, back to the North Pole, picking up newly wrapped gifts to be delivered the following day...she will continue this job, each and everyday, until all the deserving, kind Souls have been given a gift of recognition for all their selfless acts of kindness.

Maybe you’ll be one of those kind Souls...only Santa and Ryder know?!

Bouncing quickly from branch to branch, this is the way of the Scrub Jays dance.

Collecting and gathering is his cause, he will not have his kingdom to be at a loss.

So Royalton will spend the day finding seeds, insects, berries and acorns along his way.

There is not one item that can’t be refound, when Royalton goes to retrieve these winter stores that lay beneath the leaves on the cold and snowy winter floors.

So as you prepare for the long winter to come, gathering and storing away Autumn’s gifts of the season…as with Royalton, may a harvest feast in your kingdom be one of the reasons.

Harvest Moon

One cool autumn night I decided to take a walk beneath the Harvest Moon, while doing so, I met a rather peculiar gentleman dressed in fine attire that seemed to echo a style of his own. We greeted each other as one does, with kind and pleasant greetings. He told me his name was “Count Steambolie Werewolffin Punkerton.”

What an unusual name and fellow, I thought to myself, as I responded to his introduction. We continued to chat about the evening’s weather, the turning of the season, and most of all the beautiful full moon, to which he displayed much enthusiasm.

Count Steambolie Werewolffin Punkerton knew much about the Harvest Moon telling me of its use for the farmers’, who’d be taking up their fields under its light in the night’s sky, also how the Harvest Moon was the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox.

Soon, after much discussion of the Harvest Moon, the Count interjected, “But my favorite moon of them all is the Hunter’s Moon!” His eyes, full of moonlight, began to take on a deep, golden glow, as he told me of the Hunter’s Moon. “The Hunter’s Moon follows the Harvest Moon. It is called the Hunter’s Moon because it is particularly bright and long in the sky...giving hunter’s a full view of fattened prey out in the dying grass fields. This is the season’s hunt that will grace their dinner tables of further nights to come, into the deep autumn and winter season. The Hunter’s Moon is also referred to as the Travel Moon and thus, the Dying Grass Moon, but I much prefer to call it the Hunter’s Moon.”  As he said this, his lips turned up with a slight devilish grin, at which moment I could have sworn I’d seen a very long tooth resembling a wolf’s fang.

My heart began to quicken at the thought of that tooth and I was fast to end our conversation with a, “Thank you for your time Count! But I’m afraid I must be going.” Afraid, I most certainly was...something was telling me to find my way home. As I was leaving, the Count tipped his moss-green velvet hat to me and remarked, “I do hope our paths cross again soon.”

And on that note, I turned to make haste toward home. As I reached to open the door...off in the distance, drifting on the night’s cool air, I heard the faint utterance of howling, which sent chills down my spine. The howling seemed to grow louder with every shaking turn of the door’s knob…“Hurry!” I whispered under my breath. “Hurry up and open!” Finally the door sprang to life and I threw myself inside, afterwards, quickly slamming the door shut behind me.

Later, tucking myself into bed, the cool sheets warming around my feet, my breath slowing into a quiet rhythm of softness and a feeling of lightness falling over my body...I had finally begun to feel safe, while drifting off into the night’s arms of moonlight. Outside the wind started to howl. The leafless oaks outdoors, swayed back and forth as if they were dancing about at the Harvest Moon Ball. The howling wind made me think of the Count, his words echoing in my mind, “I do hope our paths cross again soon.”

As my eyes became weary with sleep, slothfully, I whispered…“I do not hope our paths ever cross again….”

Filbert

Say hello to my friend Filbert!

Filbert is such a chipper little fellow who loves to scamper from tree to tree, scooping up nuts, berries and seeds from under summer’s flowers, bushes and trees, then stuffing away as much yummy goodness as he can possibly fit into those cute little cheeks of his.

Today it would seem he’s stopped to enjoy a delicious little Sun Rose that has managed to hang on through the hot summer. Look at him nibbling away on the sweet little flowers bright red-orange petals, all the while, his tiny whiskers wiggle and twitch! Such an adorable sight he is.

After Filbert finishes his tiny treat, he’ll be back to work, collecting up more nuts, berries and seeds to eat during the winter’s long, cold, snowy season. He has already packed his little nest with all kinds of soft twigs, moss and leaves which will help to keep him comfy and warm. In this little nest, which is snugly tucked down under a very large oak tree, you’ll find some small mushrooms and acorns that Filbert has already, safely stored away. Filbert leaves no time to dawdle...he stays tremendously busy during the last portion of summer’s days.

So if you’re out enjoying some woodland love this summer, say a little hello to my friend Filbert. I guarantee he’ll put a smile on your face, giving you some chipper joy to carry with you while hiking through his wonderful, woodland world.

May the rest of your summer be filled with sun, seeds, nuts, berries and a warm, mossy, breeze….

Lior and his Lion

Lior and his lion went sailing out in his lime green boat one July, looking for the great Lemon Rhubarb Pie in the sky.

Each day was a magnificent journey, taking them to lands of afar, traveling by day and at night sleeping beneath a beautiful midnight blue blanket filled with twinkling stars.

Oh the wonderful things they did spy as they traveled over teal blue waves that tossed them about while they sailed across the vast seas, searching the sky.

Lands of many peoples like you and me, all going about their day, some doing jobs, others having fun and laughing while they play.

And the creatures that roamed the earth, sea and skies...oh there were so many that Lior and his lion could not believe their eyes!

Their flag of green and white gently flutters in the breeze, letting all who see it know that Lior and his lion only wish for the wonders of hope and peace, while they continue to sail about on the brilliant, blue, magical seas.

Sailing past the magnificent lavender and orange creamsicle hills that sit under the soft turquoise skies...always, they are hoping for a taste of that great Lemon Rhubarb pie.

Some days they seem to be so close to capturing a big piece of that delicious pie, as other days it is completely missing from the sky...hidden away in the gray of a gloomy weather day.

So, if you see Lior and his lion as they might happen to be sailing by, wish them luck and a good journey, while they reach for the great Lemon Rhubarb Pie in the sky....

Life and Liberty

Lady Liberty, there she stands, holding her torch over all the land.

She wears her mask and she wears it proud.

She wears her mask and she wears it loud.

She is wise with years of knowledge.

The world she’s watched has been her college.

She has seen days of joy and sorrow.

She stood and watched the Flu of 1918 take away many tomorrows.

Once again she stands to see, another beast waiting in hiding from you and me.

Put on your mask! She cries out to the land.

Put on your mask! Please take a stand. Do it for the world and your fellow man.

Help save the lives that may not see tomorrow.

It’s up to all of us to bring the joy and stop the sorrow....
